The Bottom Line:
Too many problems to recommend this product. I feel like it's been a waste of money.
Normally, my experience with Creative products have been good ones. When I was in the market for a pmp I was excited to see that Creative made one too. I like their sound cards in my computers and therefore I felt could expect the same quality in their MP3 players. My first MP3 player from Creative was a Zen 8gb. This was a good player until I fell snow skiing and broke the display. It still played; I just couldn't see anything! So I decided to get another Creative MP3 player. Only this time I went with the Xfi 8gb.
Since day one I've had nothing but problems. The first one wouldn't even start up! I had to call tech support who quickly identified it as a faulty player and I had to pay to ship it back to them for a replacement. The second one started up and I was able to load my music. As expected, the sound replication is amazing. But when I went to load more music on it, the player decides to stop the connection. I reset the player and then can download 1 song. Anything more than 1 mp3 file and it disconnects again. I try to delete a MP3 file from my computer and it disconnects. I have to press the reset button every time I want to perform 1 action on the player.
I load all my songs into a single play list. But for some reason, the player will only play roughly 25 out of 200 MP3 files in the play list. I can manually look them up and play the songs I want but if I want to play the entire play list: forget it.
I called Createive again to see if it's something I'm doing incorrectly but after 90 days of ownership additional support of their product will cost me more money. Creatives knowledge base on their web site is pretty good but suprisingly I couldn't find any support articles addressing my problems.
I'm not a big fan of Apple's proprietary business practices and I wasn't too impressed with the small display on the Zune 8GB. But seriously, if I can't load and unload music off of an MP3 player then who really cares about how good it sounds? There's just too many problems, both hardware and software, to recommend this product.
