The Bottom Line:
Buy this Netbook, for no other reason than to protect your high-end laptop. This device does just about everything, Great Value.
I bought The Samsung n120 Netbook Computer during my final year of college as a way of protecting my Macbook from the abuse it was receiving around campus. However, once I started using this netbook I nearly stopped using my Mac entirely. This netbook is tiny, fast, functional, beautiful, and travels well.
Due to an order delay, my unit was shipped with a battery upgrade for no additional charge. The battery claims made about this device are absolutely true. I can use this computer on the internet for at least four hours, as it never ran out of juice during my class lectures. The screen gets very bright, the speakers are incredible for any type of laptop, the keyboard is perfectly maximized for the size of the computer, the touch-pad functions perfectly, and nothing has gone wrong yet with the device.
There are three USB ports on the device, and they are well-spaced to allow for easy use. It is clear that a lot of thought went into the layout and design for this device. There is no wasted space, and it is a work of art.
The things I love the most about this product:
-I can't even tell the difference when I put it in my backpack.
-There is no fear of breaking or losing the device. I can take it anywhere, subject it to anything, plug it into questionable outlets, and use it on the beach/in the sun/by the pool/in the jungle knowing the worst-case scenario is that I'm down a couple hundred bucks.
-The battery lasts as long as anyone could possibly need a battery to last
-The built in camera works great for Skype and other videochat programs
-The speakers really pump out sound (with a built in mini subwoofer)
-The keyboard is large enough for a grown up (at least physically grown-up) man, though only 92% of the size of a normal laptop keyboard.
-I still get attention from strangers due to the novel size and great functionality of the device.
The only negative things to be said about this product are easily reconcilable. (1) Netbooks are Netbooks because they lack CD-ROM drives. Welcome to the future, CDs are obsolete. I have not had a single instance where I have missed carrying around an additional large, heat-producing, easily-damageable drive. Nearly all software can be downloaded directly from a vendor, and music has been digital for a long time. In the event that you need an old program or file from a CD you can always load it on an older device with a CD drive, copy the file onto a jumpdrive or virtual host, and then copy it onto your netbook. (2) Another thing that bothers people about Netbooks is mediocre specs (1GB ram, 160GB hard-drive, Atom processor). This is more than enough for word-processing, unlimited web browsing, photo-editing, video-chatting, and just about anything an adult would do with a computer. I ended up purchasing the Netbook for $310 and spending an additional $50 on a RAM upgrade and a neoprene case for the device. I'm glad I did--this Netbook is now faster than my Macbook, with twice the storage, and three times the battery life. I removed the battery of my Macbook and now use the laptop as a desktop computer.
Bottom Line: This is one awesome device, and it costs less than most repairs to high-end laptops. I strongly suggest buying this (or the Eee PC or other Netbooks from trusted brands) even if you already have a quality laptop. I don't think I'll ever be stupid enough again to take my Macbook traveling. It's just not necessary, it's an expensive thing to break, and it takes up a lot more space.
