SONY  MDR 7506  PROFESSIONAL  HEADPHONES

There are literally thousands of different headphones on the market today.  Each has its own strengths and weakness, depending on the specific use and job that the headphones in question are being called upon to perform.  Today I am... Read full review »

Pros Sound quality, comfort, durability, storage bag, size.
Cons None so far that I can think of.
Recommended it? Yes

After doing much research on headphones, even purchasing similar brands, I headed out to my local Sam Ash Music store and purchased these headphones to enjoy my music from my Ipod, computer, and Home Theatre System while at home reclined back relaxing.

The unfortunate thing about going... Read full review »

Not the Weakest Link!

byzorrothepiking Nov 17, 2006

Pros Fantastic Sound Quality, Easily Compacted, Reliable
Cons Foam Cover Peeling, Relatively Low Portability
Recommended it? Yes

As we all know, audio quality is only as good as your weakest component. Whether it's my newest CD, my Tablet PC, or my Roland Keyboard, it matters that I have headphones that will present the sound in the cleanest and richest possible tones. Unfortunately, I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend... Read full review »

Cons Not for the average music listener, cord can be annoying sometimes.

If you spend any amount of time in a studio like I do you'll know how very important it is to have quality headphones at your disposal. Not all studio speaker are the same and if you always want to hear your recordings on a level playing field studio headphones are very very important. Sony doesn't... Read full review »

Pros Sound quality, especially bass response; design, ergonomics, weight, construction...
Cons Cord too heavy in relation to phones. Sub-par sound insulation.

This review was updated on 12/9/06 to reflect my long-term experience with the product as well as my improved grammar and spelling skills.

I compared many headphones while I was making my decision by listening to them side-by-side, and some were priced well into the $400 range; meanwhile,... Read full review »

Very good balance between sound quality, weight, price and comfort

byraulizahi Jan 11, 2005

Pros Extended and flat frequency response, comfortable, rugged, portable
Cons Deepest bass is weak but it is hard to notice.

For many years I have owned Stax electrostatic (SR-5) and Koss (Pro4AAA) dynamic headphones and extensively tried AKG, and Bang & Olufsen as well.

I have tried around-the-ear (Stax, Koss, Sennheiser), on the ear (AKG), electrostatic or dynamic, all over $100 list price. These Sonys rest... Read full review »

great headphones, good price too

Pros value, great bass, crystal clear, easy to drive
Cons Highs can get shrill; can be revealing, so i wouldn't buy if you like MP3s
Recommended it? Yes

I got these in Stockholm at a rip-off price, (around 160 euro/dollars), but i needed them rapidly for the flight home.

And I'm not at all regretting the purchase. I bought them, let them play a looped MD for 2 days, and then left Sweden, the 6 hour journey from Norrkoping to Dublin was... Read full review »

My second pair in 20 years

byWhatYes Sep 2, 2006
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Sound quality! Dependibility, ruggedness, comfort, price.
Cons None.
Recommended it? Yes

I had a pair of these that I bought new in the late '80s and they were incredible even back then. And back then it seems like I paid something like $150 for them, which would be well over $200 today. They were workhorses and the comfort and fidelity was beyond anything else out there. Some 20 years... Read full review »

Great Sound, Value.

byproneax Dec 13, 2003
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros High quality audio: clarity, bass response, accurate audio reproduction at a reasonable...
Cons Not the best as a portable headphone, but that isn't the aim.
Recommended it? Yes

Before I purchased these headphones, I had only owned the generic 20-30 dollar headphones - a pair of earbuds for travel and a pair of streetstyle phones for comfort.

I decided it was time to invest in a decent pair of headphones, and I began looking around, reading reviews and online... Read full review »

Could not wear for longer than 1 hour without pain on ears.

Pros Good bass response and overall sound quality.
Cons Couldn't wear very long at all.
Recommended it? No

Well, I was used to a pair of Sennheiser 280 Pro headphones. They started to break down a bit, cracking on the plastic areas but the sound and comfort was great. I thought that by all the great reviews these would be a great replacement and boy was I wrong.

They did not sit over my ears... Read full review »

Sony's Pro Audio department has a real winner on its ears with the MDR7506 large-diaphragm foldable headphones. These "phones have everything a musician needs for the studio or on the road.
