The Compaq Home Internet Appliance (HIA) is a task specific device optimized for Internet usage. The primary uses for consumers center around providing useful information exchanges in three key areas: community (email, chat, etc.) information (search, news, etc.) and commerce (shopping, auctions, etc.)??The design provides a simpler and more intuitive Internet user experience than a standard computer. The simplified experience is accomplished through integration of the device hardware, software, Internet services, and portal. The Compaq designed user interface will include tight integration of on-screen functions, web page design, and custom Internet keyboard buttons.
