All HP LaserJet printers use the de facto PCL standard to control the output to the printed page. The comparative standard for the IBM mainframe and AS/400 environment is called AFP/IPDS. By adding the MPI Tech IPDS DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) IBM emulation is added to the HP LaserJet printers without having to change the existing HP JetDirect interface. Simply plug in the IPDS DIMM module, power up the printer and set up the IBM required parameters using the control panel of the HP LaserJet printer. Your normal LAN printing will continue as before, but in addition you can receive AFP/IPDS output over TCP/IP from IBM OS/390, OS/400 and AIX systems to be printed on your standard HP LasetJet printer. The IPDS DIMM module can also be used to add IPDS emulation to HP printers connected to IBM Coax (3270) and Twinax (5250) systems.
