I've been looking at laptops for a while, and after checking out every brand and model that exists, I picked the ibook G4. I'm a starting musician, so after checking out the apple store and the garageband program I was stunned. Although the ibook doesnt have an audio-in port, there is an adapter (imic $35) that gives an audio in/out port through USB.
I was a bit reluctant because I've been used to Windows for years. But I now know what i have been missing. Mac Panther has so many great features from expose to the general simplicity of the Finder. I was surprised that the laptop doesnt really heat up. Also, there is a fan, but I am yet to hear it. It must be silent or something.
The laptop itself has a very durable design. It is stronger than the powerbook, and is designed for students where it might take the abuse of traveling in a backpack. Also the model is very portable and can fit almost anywhere. Not to mention the exceptional battery life. Apple says its 6 hours, but I got like 5 which I believe is great.
It is hard to give up the right click and learn new keyboard commands, but within a couple of days, you get used to it. I have never been into anything that apple has made since the ipod. Then I started checking out their stuff. If you are looking for a notebook with amazing software and working with media, this is the laptop for you.
