The Dimension 2200:

The Dimension 2200 is a sleek and elegantly designed Home PC: The case is easy to navigate and has screw less removal simply and easily by using the small black latch at the rear top of the case: The Dimension 2200 that I use everyday came with a CDRW and a Celeron 1.3 Ghz processor and 128 MB of RAM: I quickly upgraded to 384 MB when a spare DIMM came available: This one uses SDRAM PC133 which is fairly easy to find.

Case and Accessories:
The Dimension has several advantages in the standard keyboard and mouse that comes with the system is more than adequate for most needs. A standard Dell Wheel mouse is made by Microsoft and performs generally flawlessly. The 17' monitor is clear and crisp and matches with the black facade on the rest of the case:

Ports and Accessibility:
As for standard ports this one comes with just about everything. It has a 4 usb ports along with standard ps/2 mouse and keyboard, monitor, parallel and one com port. In addition this model came with a 10/100 network adapter and a standard sound card and speakers.

Hardware Performance:
Although the Celeron isn't generally my first choice for processor's I find this 1.3 Ghz system handles most everything I throw at it: And I do mean just about everything: Sometimes I have Word, Excel, Access and Mozilla running simultaneously with Crystal Reports 8 and MS Outlook: The system generally doesn't slow down till I run out of physical RAM and before I put in the 384 my limit was generally Outlook, Word, and MS Access: In addition the Dimension came with a 37GB 5400 RPM drive. My biggest disappointments generally involve the Operating System not the hardware:

On board Software:
The great thing about Dell is you can get just about anything you want on these systems. This one came with Office XP for Small Business. That includes Word, Excel, Power point, and Outlook. MS Access is excluded: In addition there were several options of Music Match and Real Media player pre-installed.

Usability:
The system is easy to use and a snap to setup: The system had a quick startup guide that was right on target and simple to use: The system is geared towards the Home user there is no doubt with a price point currently in the sub $600 range.

Customer Support:
I haven't had to used Dell's support though we did receive the standard 1 year hardware and 1 year on site warranty: The 3 year now being an option on the lower end PC's

Operating System: The system comes pre-installed with Windows XP Home edition but we wiped this install and put on XP Professional shortly after purchase since this is a business system: Win XP generally has to be rebooted about once a week minimum when running the amount of business applications that I do.
Including MS SQL 2000, MS Fox Pro 6.0, Visual Studio 6, Microsoft Office, Crystal 8, etc. . .

Overall: This is the 2nd Dimension System from Dell that I use often, I've found both more than adequate for a Small Office and performs admirably for the environment: If your looking for an inexpensive home or small office PC you generally can't go wrong with a Dell Dimension: If you are looking for a network manageable PC with the latest and greatest specs, you need to look at the Insperion Laptops or the Optiplex Desktops or other Dell Workstations designed for the task:
A Business Class System the Optiplex 170L"
