Great idea that falls flat
Pros: You get to fight with a partner. Teleportation.
Cons: Dust and smoke from blast cover guys. Full review I was looking for a cheap game to buy my kids that would entertain them and allow me to keep a few dollars in my pocket. One of the games on their list was DBZ Sagas. The games is simple. Fight through the Sagas in either one or two player modes. This game was released after DBZ Budokai 3, so I expected a lot. The fact that you can play with a partner in the Sagas is a great idea. My kids loved the fact that instead of fighting each other, you can fight together. I liked it to, except after playing Budokai 3, the graphics, sounds, and controls fell a little flat. Don't get me wrong, I like this game, but it just looks like it was released before Budokai 1 instead of in the summer of 2005. The moves are simple, a plus for a marginal game player like me, but the beautiful explosions and fights are not there. In two player mode, the blasts create smoke and you cannot see the guy your trying to destroy. You also can lose track of your partner and end up wailing on them instead. Now I do like the teleportation in this game. A simple click of the R2 button and you teleport into a great position on your opponent. It also comes in handy to avoid major blasts. The fighting is good as well, and easy to do with the controls. It makes the action go quick and if you are faster than your opponent, you whip them. I hate the way the energy blasts cover your opponent and your ally if you are fighting. I also hate the idea that you can use a character that does not belong in the saga to kill everyone. My son quickly learned that using Broly in every saga could get him quick and effecient wins. If you are into that, go ahead, but it ruined the game for me. I would have rather seen a selection of characters from each saga and as I moved through the sagas, the characters changed to match the saga. For the price, $20, I do not feel like I got ripped off on this game, but Budokai 3 and Tenkachi make this DBZ game look ancient. However, if you are a big fan and want 3D fighting cheap, this is your game. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until Tenkachi goes on sale. |
