A Little Too Complicated For Me
Pros: Good copy/scan quality
Cons: Not easy to learn to use Full review I purchased the HP Scanjet 4470c in December. It's now February and I still haven't quite figured out exactly how to use it. When I purchased it I made my decision based on the advertising for the one touch buttons. I figured that with the buttons it would be fairly simple. I also based my decision on the fact that it comes with a transparency adapter for 35mm negatives and slides, which I needed desperately. The scanner doesn't come with a pre-printed users manual. There is a help function, but I found it difficult to read the help instructions on the computer screen as I was trying to learn how to operate the scanner. I printed out the users manual. It's very large!! Even with the users manual I find it difficult to learn how to operate. The software included with the scanner is not easy to learn, either. It appears to be simple, but it isn't. The scanner has several buttons on the front panel. It has a copy button, color/black & white copy button, photo reprint button, scan to button, e-mail button, share-to-web button, power save button, cancel button, and more options button. That's a lot of buttons, isn't it? If you use the destination buttons you cannot view the scanned image before you send it to your destination (e-mail, web, etc...). If you want to view the image before you send it to your destination you have to use the scanner software. So, unless you're positive that the quality of the scanned image will be good, the buttons are almost worthless. How many of you know how the quality of the scanned image is going to be before you actually scan it? If you don't care what the image looks like, then this is the scanner for you!! I'm a strange person. I like to know beforehand if the recipient will be able to see what I scanned and know what they're looking at. If you're a whiz with scanners then I would recommend this scanner for you because it does have a lot of features. The transparency adapter is especially nice if you have tons of negatives and have no clue what they are. You can scan the negatives and view them, if you can figure out how to use it. It took me quite a while to figure it out. |
