Excellent scanner

Pros: Slides come out beautiful, many options for adjustment
Cons: Only 1 slide per scan, can be complicated to set up

The bottom line: Scans come out beautifully; once set up is completed, it is relatively easy to use and plenty of ways to adjust the final product.

I have scanned in a total of maybe 1,000 slides. The scanner is great in handling a variety of slides in different conditions. It handled everything except the very worst ones that were completely washed out. The slides came out excellent, with beautiful colors.

There were about 400 slides in RGB mode. My Epson 4180 scanner did not handle the RGB slides at all; the Nikon CoolScan took these slides like nothing and it all came out very well. Also, another person scanned in about 200 'regular' slides, which also came out very well.

The setup initially took some time, and was a bit difficult to understand. This is partially due to the complex nature of the scanner, as well as the myriad of options.

The scanner is a bit noisy, and unfortunately, only takes in one slide at a time. You can save some of the scanned slides while continuing to scan other slides, but you do have to 'time' the save, as otherwise, the scanner stops while you are attempting to type in the name of the file, etc.

Depending on the slide, expect that each slide scan will take about 2 minutes and 15 seconds.

All in all, a very excellent scanner.
